A historical outdoor play about the dream of America, identity, and belonging.

In 4th of July – 17th of May, we meet Norwegian immigrants in Belmond, where they are building new lives on the prairie. Through song, music, and powerful human stories, the play portrays how they became Americans without forgetting the country they came from. The historic buildings at Norsk utvandrermuseum provide a unique setting for the performance.

In the emigrant play Fourth of July – 17th of May, we meet Norwegian immigrants in Belmond, a Norwegian-American community founded by emigrants from Brumund and Vang. Through song, music, and powerful human encounters, we follow the pioneers as they cultivate the land, build churches and schools, raise families, and create a new home on the American prairie.

They have become Americans, but they never forget Norway. Between the celebrations of Independence Day and Norway’s Constitution Day, a story unfolds about identity, belonging, and the dream of a better life.
