Ann B. McConnell, the Counselor for Press, Education and Cultural Affairs at U.S. Embassy Oslo, will provide an overview of U.S.- Norway relations and discuss U.S. public diplomacy efforts in Norway.

A member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ann McConnell became Public Affairs Officer for the Embassy of the United States of America in Oslo, Norway in July 2017.  

She served as Public Affairs Officer and American Center Director at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 2014-2017.  She was previously Director of American Centers in Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China.  With over 26 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, Ann McConnell served as an Economic Officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a Financial Economist covering Investment Policy in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, and held assignments on the China/Mongolia Desk and in the Office of Public Diplomacy for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the Department of State in Washington, D.C.  Previous overseas assignments include consular work at the U.S embassies in China and in South Korea.  

She has a Master of Arts degree in International Management and Business Administration from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ann was married to a United States Army Officer with postings in Arizona, North Carolina, California, Washington D.C., South Korea, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.  Together they raised two sons.  Ann’s most passionate pastimes are intercultural communication and appreciating nature.
