In this exhibition, the Norwegian Emigrant Museum will present new perspectives on Norwegian emigration history. Recent research has disproved many an old myth. Now, even the more unpleasant aspects of history are being disclosed and can come to light. Many similarities exist between Norwegians' historical emigration and the immigration we see in Norway today. The museum's new, permanent exhibition will convey both similarities and differences.

Two hundred years after Restauration left Stavanger, a true copy of the sloop will sail the original route across the Atlantic. Departure from Stavanger July 4th and arrival in New York October 9th. This voyage will be combined with various cultural events.

The archives of the Norwegian Emigrant Museum hold around 10,000 letters from America and elsewhere. The genealogy organization Slekt og Data is helping the museum transcribe part of these handwritten letters, in order to make their content digitally available.

The Norway Heritage website is an important source of knowledge about ships and shipping across the Atlantic but has until recently been run by one single individual. The genealogy organization Slekt og Data has undertaken to continue and renew this website.
