Archives and Collections

The Norwegian Emigrant Museum has one of Norway's largest collections specializing in the story of Norwegian emigration to overseas destinations, including the emigrants' lives in a new country, their ongoing relationship to their country of origin and return migration.

The archives and collections consist of buildings, artifacts, The Ingrid Semmingsen Research Library with nearly 20,000 books and pamphlets, archival material and sound recordings and much more. You will find photographs, letters from America, newspaper clippings, tape-recorded interviews, archives from emigrant agents, advertising material promoting emigration, and many other small and large items acquired by purchase and donation from private individuals, institutions and organizations.
