Unknown Landscape – New Perspectives on Emigration History

In this exhibition, the Norwegian Emigrant Museum will present new perspectives on Norwegian emigration history. Recent research has disproved many an old myth. Now, even the more unpleasant aspects of history are being disclosed and can come to light. Many similarities exist between Norwegians' historical emigration and the immigration we see in Norway today. The museum's new, permanent exhibition will convey both similarities and differences.

Restauration sails to New York

Two hundred years after Restauration left Stavanger, a true copy of the sloop will sail the original route across the Atlantic. Departure from Stavanger July 4th and arrival in New York October 9th. This voyage will be combined with various cultural events.

America letters

The archives of the Norwegian Emigrant Museum hold around 10,000 letters from America and elsewhere. The genealogy organization Slekt og Data is helping the museum transcribe part of these handwritten letters, in order to make their content digitally available.
